Sponsor Love
Westboro Baptist Church is an extremely vocal “Christian” church whose stated goal is to preach that God hates everyone (except them). WBC is considered a cult, but unfortunately they are extremely vocal and appear frequently on TV, radio and newspapers across the country under the name Christian. We believe that they are doing more to tarnish God’s name and purposes than almost any other group and we have decided it is time to take action. WBC is known for their weekly protests where they travel around the country with signs that proclaim “God’s” hate. Their signs proclaim, “God Hates Fags, “God Hates You”, “Thank God For AIDS”, “9-11 Gift From God”, “Death Penalty for Gays”, “God Hates the World” and countless other hate-filled slogans. Instead of criticizing, blaming or hating them back we have decided to love others instead and counter the “God hates you” message they are sending with a stronger message. Our message is that God loves you. We believe that Jesus did not come to condemn the world but to save it. We believe that God so loved the world that He gave His only son so that all can be saved. It is His love that compels us to counter the lies of WBC with actions of love, not just counter-points to their hate-filled words. The old adage goes that actions speak louder than words so we don’t want to criticize WBC but instead want to offer the love of God to others through action. Our goal is to have WBC work against themselves by empowering you to show God’s love for the world for every hour that they offer hate.
Our plan: for every hour WBC publicly protests with their signs we will all donate $1, $5, $10 (or a dollar-amount of your choosing) to Compassion International’s Haiti relief effort. By protesting WBC will actually be working towards more money going to help, serve and love those in need. They will actually be working against themselves every hour that they tell the world God hates them we will yell, “God loves you!” with our donations. This model is like when you sponsor a friend for a “Race for the Cure” (with a dollar-amount for every mile they run), but in this case WBC doesn’t want you to sponsor them. That’s ok, do it anyway 
Every hour they protest we all will donate a dollar (or more if you choose). The more they protest, the more we all give to help, serve and love others.
If you are tired of WBC running God’s name through the mud and would like to counter their hate with love, simply sign up at the bottom of our page for what dollar amount you’d like to donate (per hour they protest) and give us your e-mail address (you won’t receive any spam). At the end of the month we will send you an e-mail with the total number of hours WBC protested that month and how much you are to donate based on your pledge. We will include the link for Compassion International’s Haiti Relief effort in your e-mail and then you will donate directly to them. No money comes to us at all. Compassion International is doing great work to distribute life-saving food, medicines, and family survival kits including clean water, blankets, cooking supplies, and tents to children and families devastated by the earthquake in Haiti. With Haiti falling out of the headlines there is a tendency to forget about the need or assume it’s not as bad now because so many groups are doing such much. While there is much good being done there the need is still severe and without the media attention now help and donations are not coming in like they need to be. Over 217,000 people were killed in the quake and countless are still starving, without shelter, without clean water and without life-saving meds. This campaign comes at a perfect time to show the world that God and God’s people love them.

Keep in mind that you are only signing up to sponsor one month, i.e. if you sign up Sept. 9th, you will receive an e-mail Oct. 9th with how much money it has added up to over the month.
Some have asked about how much WBC protests on average so they can get an idea of how much they wish to donate per hour. On average they protest about 20 hours a month (but their schedule changes all the time). So if you pledge a dollar an hour, at the end of the month it will add up to around $20 at this rate.
